nyc travel guide: west village.

I’m finally putting together some NYC travel guides 🙂 I’ve had lots of people ask me for recommendations and I’ve rounded up my favorite GO TOs that will certainly not disappoint. The first neighborhood I’m going to highlight is the West Village.

For me, the West Village is simply the best & most magical area in NYC.

Brunch / Lunch:

Claudette // Claudette {French + BEAUTIFUL Рgo for the ros̩}

Jack’s Wife Freda // Jack’s Wife Freda {for the Insta #obvi — they have the cutest sugar packets & the food is amazing. 2 locations}

Cafe Cluny // Cafe Cluny {adorable place for brunch or dinner + healthy-ish options}

Buvette // Buvette {Like most places in the West Village, it’s very small but so quaint — I could stay all day. One of Richard’s favorites as well. All the food I’ve ever tried at Buvette has been delicious. There’s a little patio in the back when it’s warm.}

Rosemary’s // Rosemary’s {the lemon linguine and caprese focaccia are a MUST}

Freemans // Freemans {head down an alleyway and you will find yourself at this magical restaurant. Spinach artichoke dip = 100%}

This is actually not in the West Village but I already threw it in here so it’s going to stay 🙂 It’s located on the Lower East Side but not far from WV.

The Spotted Pig // The Spotted Pig {this place is the cutest, you feel like you are in someones home. They serve seasonal British & Italian food. If in doubt, get the burger + shoestring fries}

Mermaid Inn / Mermaid Oyster Bar // Mermaid Inn {for obviously reasons I love this place – they have 3 locations & are known for oysters}

Date Night spots:

L’Artusi // L’Artusi {must make reservation well in advance or go early — we went around 6pm & were able to sit at the chef’s counter!}

Palma // Palma {it’s worth the wait to sit in the back garden // the garden is open year round. They also have a wine bar next door that’s cozy & adorable if you need to wait for a table!} Also a fun spot for brunch with girls.

Great for Groups:

Tortilla Flats // {Tortilla Flats is a lot of fun for groups. Make sure you make a reservation well in advance. It has crazy streamers and decor on the ceilings — I would say it’s definitely more of a go to for the vibe and liveness / pre-game. The food is just your standard Mexican}

Magnolia Bakery // Magnolia Bakery {I like the location in the WV the best because it’s not SO packed & feels like a small corner bakery rather than a whole big production}

magnolias bakery

Big Gay Ice Cream // Big Gay Ice Cream – I haven’t personally been here but it’s extremely popular with lines around the corner in the summer. So I think it’s a must try.

The Garrett {The Garrett is a cool speakeasy on the 2nd floor of Five Guys — you enter through the back of Five Guys. Always hopping // fun cocktails & craft beers}

Wilfie & Nell {Wilfie & Nell is trendy + good ambiance}

Diablo Royale {order a “Ricky” at Diablo Royale if you are looking to get after it. Half beer / half marg. They’ll get ya}

Houston Hall {we went to Houston Hall for Richard’s birthday last year. Really fun beer hall + great for group get togethers}

And if you are into stopping by Carrie Bradshaw’s pad from Sex And The City the address is 64 Perry St (between Bleeker & W 4th St). I made my friend Kelsey go with me this past Fall. I was VERY excited.

If only I could have spotted SJP. I’ve heard that she actually lives there and owns the the townhouse on the opposite back side. They used one side for shooting & lived in the other. Fun fact 🙂

Hope this is helpful // have a great week!! xx

  1. the light pink you are using for the names of restaurants does not show up . needs to be bolder

  2. yay! Im going to NYC later this month with girlfriends and always love seeing the new places to try!

    • SO fun! My absolute favorite is Palma — if you haven’t been you should DEF go. You can make reservations via OpenTable which is also the best. THEN after OpenTable, I like to call ahead & request to be in the back garden. Makes it 100x better. Hope you enjoy your trip! xx

  1. […] NYC at Christmas time is the most magical. Here are a few snaps I took on Friday in the West Village {my favorite area of the city!} — it’s too cute. Check out my West Village guide from last year here. […]
